About Prácheň Ensemble From Strakonice
The Prácheň Ensemble from Strakonice is one of the most prominent representatives of South Bohemian folklore. Founded in 1949, the ensemble draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the Prácheň region and the foothills of the Šumava Mountains in southern and southwestern Czechia. At the heart of the ensemble is traditional bagpipe music featuring authentic Czech bagpipes, complemented by violins, double bass, and clarinets. The vocal component includes both male and female singers, who perform in separate choirs as well as together, interpreting traditional songs from the Prácheň region alongside works by Baroque composers.
The ensemble’s performances culminate in dynamic presentations where all groups come together—musicians, singers, and above all, dancers. These group dances, rich in traditional steps and figures, offer a vivid visual celebration of regional customs.
The ensemble’s repertoire features thematically focused acts that portray traditional events and customs of the Prácheň region, tailored to occasions such as weddings, shrovetide or harvest festivals. Performing both at home and abroad, members of the ensemble appear in beautiful folk costumes that bring the spirit of Czech traditions to life.
